Don’t Drone On!

Ain’t technology great! A drone deposited a package containing drugs and tobacco in the middle of the yard at the Mansfield Correctional Institution last week. After the drone dropped its payload, a melee ensued among the prisoners who were vying for the delivery—the guards ruined the fun by recovering 5 ounces of tobacco, 2.3 ounces of marijuana and 0.2 of an ounce of heroin.

Corrections officers used pepper spray to douse the fighting and about 200 prisoners from both the north and south recreation yards were carefully searched before being returned to their cells. During the scuffle, the package was thrown over a fence from the north to the south yard and was eventually recovered hidden in the south yard’s equipment room. The close-security prison contains about 2,700 inmates.
